Editorial Policy
How we review security companies, what our ratings mean, and why you can trust what you read here.
Our Mission
TN Security Review has covered Tennessee's private security industry since 2015. We started because finding honest, detailed information about security providers was nearly impossible. Most "review" sites were thinly disguised ads. We wanted something different.
Our goal is straightforward: give businesses and property owners the information they need to hire the right security company. We do the legwork so you don't have to guess.
How We Review
Every review follows the same process. We don't cut corners, and we don't rush to publish.
Licensing Verification
We check every company's license status with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. An expired or missing license is an automatic disqualifier.
On-Site Visits
Our field reviewers visit company offices and active guard posts. We observe how guards conduct themselves, check uniforms and equipment, and assess professionalism firsthand.
Client Interviews
We talk to current and former clients about their actual experience. Sales promises mean nothing if the company can't deliver on the ground.
Industry Data
We pull complaint records, legal filings, and insurance documentation. A clean public record matters as much as a polished website.
Our Rating System
We score companies on a 5-point scale across four categories. Each category carries equal weight in the overall rating.
Reliability
Do guards show up on time? How does the company handle no-shows and emergencies? What's their track record for keeping commitments?
Pricing
Is pricing transparent and competitive? Are there hidden fees? Does the contract clearly spell out what you're paying for?
Technology & Reporting
What tools does the company use for guard tracking, incident reporting, and client communication? Are reports timely and useful?
Customer Service
How responsive is the company to calls and emails? Do they assign a dedicated account manager? How quickly do they resolve problems?
A score of 4.5 or above earns our "Top Rated" designation. Scores below 3.0 come with a warning. We don't award perfect 5.0 scores because no company gets everything right all the time.
Independence
This is the part that matters most. We don't accept payment from any security company we review. Not for placement, not for higher ratings, not for "featured" listings. Our revenue comes from display advertising and downloadable buyer guides.
Our editorial team has full control over what gets published and what ratings companies receive. Advertisers have zero influence over review content. If a company offers us money for a better rating, we'll decline and note it in our files.
Corrections Policy
We make mistakes sometimes. When we do, we fix them quickly and transparently.
- Factual errors are corrected as soon as we're made aware of them.
- Corrected articles include a note at the bottom explaining what changed and when.
- If a company's circumstances change significantly, we'll update the review and adjust the rating.
- We won't remove a negative review because a company asks us to. But we will update it if the facts warrant a change.
